public class SobelEdgeDetector : XYGradientEdgeDetector

Sobel edge processing involves the application (via convolution) of a 3x3 kernel that approximates the local derivatives in the X and Y directions. The Sobel kernel doubles the weight applied to the kernel's central value versus the Prewitt kernel and is generally thought to exhibit better edge performance than the Prewitt method. The magnitude of the local derivative is assumed to be proportional to the local edge strength. To view the local edge strength, generate an image of the edge magnitude. Alternatively, images of the individual gradients (in both the X and Y directions) can be generated.
